What are cookies?

A "cookie" is a small text file that websites install on a user's computer when they access a particular site or use certain services offered by the site. What are cookies used for?

Types of cookies and purposes

In general, and according to common terminology, cookies can have different characteristics that allow them to be classified according to:

Following this classification, a single cookie can possess all of these characteristics simultaneously. For instance, a cookie might be persistent, third-party, and used for profiling purposes.

Duration

  • Session/Temporary Cookies: These are not stored permanently but only for the duration of the browsing session. This means they are automatically deleted from the user's device once they exit the website and close the browser.
  • Persistent Cookies: These are stored on the user's device until they are deleted by the user or until they reach their predetermined expiration date. They are not automatically deleted from the user's device when they exit the website.  

Origin

  • First-party Cookies: These are cookies issued by the website being visited; the website corresponds to the address typed in by the user (the website displayed in the URL bar).
  • Third-party Cookies: These are cookies issued by a website other than the one being visited by the user.

Purpose

  • Technical Cookies: These cookies are essential for browsing the website and using specific features. They can be subdivided into:
    • Navigation/Communication/Performance Cookies: These ensure normal browsing and use of the website (allowing, for example, a purchase or authentication to access restricted areas); if these cookies are blocked, the website may no longer function correctly.

Which cookies we use and how to manage or delete cookies

Our website uses various types of cookies and similar technologies, each with a specific function. The site can be browsed by users even without the use of cookies, but the browsing experience may not be optimal.

Necessary Cookies

Preference, Analytics, and Statistics Cookies

The site uses analytical/statistical cookies to collect and process statistical analyzes on how users browse the site through their computer or mobile applications, on the number of visits and pages visited or the number of clicks made on a page during browsing a site. The information generated about our website is used by our company to create reports on the use of the site itself to improve usability, functionality, interface, and communication. Our site processes the results of these analyzes anonymously and exclusively for statistical purposes.

We collaborate with Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising to acquire the way in which the user uses and interacts with our website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replays to improve and market our products/services. Website usage data is acquired using first-party and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine the popularity of products/services and online activity. In addition, we use this information for site optimization, fraud/security purposes, and advertising. The data collected by the tool is anonymized: a unique ID is associated with the visitor user not linked to any personal identifier. We also use Google technologies to manage preferences, manage and improve the user experience, associate the information on visits collected from the website/your app with Google information from user accounts with Google accounts that have logged in and have consented to this association for the purpose of customizing ads. This Google information may include the User's location, search history, browsing history, and data from sites that collaborate with Google and are used to provide aggregated and anonymous information on cross-device user behavior. Marketing cookies and cookie profiling

Marketing cookies are generally used to track visitors on websites. The purpose is to present advertisements that are relevant and engaging to the individual user and therefore of greater value to third-party publishers and advertisers. They are designed to understand the preferences of individual users so as to present them, during browsing, with targeted content of interest to them, based on previous browsing (for example, cookies can be used to store information such as preferred page configuration and playback preferences, explicit choices regarding automatic playback, random playback of content, and player size). This activity is facilitated by tracking usage data and using tracking tools to collect information that is then transferred to partners who manage remarketing and behavioral targeting activities. Additional Third-Party Requests

Third-party requests are all those requests that a site makes to load content from third-party domains. The connection can be a subdomain of the site's domain or an unrelated domain name. While some third-party requests are necessary for the functionality of a site, consider the content uploaded from a content delivery network, other requests are used to display advertising, social media buttons, tracking scripts, or other content. In some cases, device fingerprinting systems are also used (Analytics, Advertising). The anonymous data collected relates to the characteristics of the device used by the user and allows for the presentation of advertisements that are even more relevant and engaging to the individual user. All the information acquired does not necessarily reveal personal information about the user (e.g., name, location, etc.), but is useful for the purpose of proposing advertisements in line with the user's preferences. Cookie Management

When the user visits the website, a popup is displayed with an explanation of the cookies applied. The banner at the opening of the homepage, containing the brief information on the use of cookies, allows the user to "accept" or "reject" the application of non-necessary cookies, or to modify them using the link (or graphic symbol) present at the bottom of each page of the site.
